HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A new Filipino-inspired eatery has taken over The Pig and the Lady’s former space in Chinatown.
After several years making her mark in New York’s culinary scene, Kalihi-born chef Monique Cadavona opened Mama Guava, a lunch spot serving Hawaii Regional Cuisine inspired by her Filipino heritage with a touch of NYC memories.
After The Pig and the Lady moved to Kaimuki, Cadavona said long-time friend Chef Andrew Le asked if she wanted to take over the space until the lease ends in a few months.
She jumped at the opportunity after years of running her own catering and events company in New York and working alongside Michelin-starred chefs, James Beard nominees, and renowned culinary personalities.
She says Mama Guava’s motto is “I just want to cook like your grandma.”
Mama Guava is located at 83 N. King St. in Chinatown and is open Tuesdays-Saturdays from 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m. She also offers catering.
