BRADENTON, Fla. (CBS12) — Two buses transporting Fort Pierce Central High School students home from a band competition crashed Saturday night, injuring six students.
According to St. Lucie Public Schools officials, the crash occurred in the Bradenton area when an SUV rear-ended one of the buses, causing it to be pushed into the bus ahead.
Six students were reportedly transported to local hospitals with minor injuries. Five of the students have since been released, with one student remaining in the hospital for observation.

“Our thoughts are with the students, families, and staff members impacted by last night’s accident,” said Superintendent Dr. Jon R. Prince in a statement. “We are incredibly thankful for the immediate response and support from Manatee County Schools, local first responders, and our own team members who worked together to ensure our students’ safety and well-being.”
Officials said Manatee County Schools quickly stepped in to help, sending two buses late Saturday night to transport the remaining students back to Fort Pierce Central. The students were reunited with their families early Sunday morning.
